To “Hot Rod” an electric vehicle it takes more than a motor switch
you will have to do some research to get the correct motor (hp/torque/rpm) depends on vehicle weight and gearing
you will also need capacitors to supply enough power for quick starts
here is a site that may help http://www.cartszone.com/melexem.asp

Can i run a 36 volt electric motor on 48 volts?
I have a golf cart, i’ve upgraded the system to 48 volts, but not the motor, my dad says it can handle the extra power. will I burn the motor up???

what electric motors have high torque and rpm?
i need a very high speed electric motor soon for my golf cart any ideas, im not worried about compatability issues i just need a strong, fast motor

I have a 16hp 42″ riding lawn mower. I want to replace the engine with an electric one — What HP do I need?
I would ideally like the electric motor to be sized such that I can run it off a standard 15a, 110volt outlet if at all possible… with a really long extension cord of course. ;)

If that sounds crazy, what about a DC motor and a couple 6v golf cart batteries? I need to mow 14,000sq ft and would like to drain the batteries down to maybe 40% of a charge remaining.

You can get about 1.8 kw out of a 15 amp line (US), which translates to 2.4 HP. But because of startup surges, I’d not go above 2 HP. This is quite a strain for a riding mower. I’s switch to a push type, you can purchase these with a long cord, AC type, or battery operated. And the exercise is good for you.

You would probably want to have a dedicated 20 amp line installed.

But, replacing the motor, and redoing the controls, etc, is a major project for a very good mechanic. And it would work poorly. Buy a new one, push operated, not riding.

Battery operated mowers have even less power, and the mower is heavier, as you have to push the battery around also. You will need a different motor.

I don’t know what a golf cart battery puts out, but sealed 12 volt lead acid batteries come in sizes up to 100 amp-hours, which comes to about 1kw-hr. So if you used the same rating motor, 2 HP, 1800 watts, this battery (which is quite big) will only last for half an hour. This battery is about $200-300. You will also need a good battery charger.

Again, you can buy mowers with a battery and DC motor. Much easier than converting one. But not the ride type, only the push type.

I has a house in NH that I mowed every week, with a push type. About an acre, 40,000 sq ft. You can do 14k easily with a push mower.

considering tesla recently received a $465,000,000 low cost loan from the U.S. department of energy & they expect to raise another $100,000,000 million from their initial stock offering, they should just give the freaking little things away to registered taxpayers!

Why do the manufacturers like Tesla Motors charge so much for electric cars when common sense knows?
It is bogus overly inflated for a golf cart.

Moped is a subset of motor vehicle.

In Sc is a moped considered a motor vehicle?
I’m trying to figure this out.

56-1-10 “Motor vehicle” means every vehicle which is self-propelled, and every vehicle which is propelled by electric power obtained from overhead trolley wires but not operated upon rails.

    56-1-1710. Meaning of “moped”.

“moped” means a cycle with pedals to permit propulsion by human power or without pedals and with a motor of not more than fifty cubic centimeters which produces not to exceed two brake horsepower and which is not capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed in excess of thirty miles an hour on level ground. If an internal combustion engine is used, the moped must have a power drive system that functions directly or automatically without clutching or shifting by the operator after the drive system is engaged.

Also I’m assuming that a golf cart is considered a motor vehicle as well?
